We searched the net and found this week’s latest and greatest music videos:
Artist: PAPPY KOJO FT. JOEY B
Video Title: REALER NO
After their much talked about “Wave” single, Pappy Kojo and Joey B tag team on Pappy’s new single “Realer No”. What stands out in the whole song is Pappy Kojo’s flow. We haven’t heard anyone make #Fante lyrics [spoken in the Western region of Ghana] sound so fresh since Kwaw Kese’s “Nonsense” circa 2004. The blatant Tommy Hilfiger and New York Mets apparel is a bit confusing as Ghanaians don’t give a flying f*^@ about baseball let alone fashion by Hilfiger. Pappy and his gang could have gone for a much more interesting local aesthetic. The forced US HipHop tropes will throw you off but other than that, “Realer No” is a banger. Well, to be fair, some commentators online have mentioned how similar it does sound to “Wave.”
Artists: SARKODIE FT. BURNA BOY & AKA
Video Title: SPECIAL SOMEONE
Ghana’s rap aficionado, Sarkodie, employs AKA and Burna Boy fire rhymes on this new video for their song ‘Special Someone,” off the artist’s Sarkology double disc album released last year.
Artist: ART MELODY
Video Title: BAMB RAT
Burkinabe rapper, Art Melody, has released a video for the song “BAMB RAT,” off his Wogdog Blues (Ouagadougou Blues) album in 2013. Art Melody does serious social commentary with music, often calling out failed political leadership in his home country of Burkina Faso.
Artists: GASMILLA FT. ROCKY MOGLI
Video Title: HERE 2 STAY
Ghana’s only “International Fishaman” and King of Azonto, Gasmilla, creates a Ga [language spoken by the people of Accra] Pidgin mashup with Dagbani [language spoken in Northern Ghana] singer, Rocky Mogli, in this Karate stunt video for the tune “Here 2 Stay.”
Artist: YEMI ALADE
Video Title: KISSING
Nigerian Songstress Yemi Alade releases another single, “Kissing,” off her KING OF QUEENS album, earlier this month. The video is shot in London and chronicles her love life with a childhood crush and the present-day drama that comes with this love thing.
