A Flock of Beginnings

The Booker Prize winning novel, The Famished Road by Nigerian writer Ben Okri, is the main inspiration for this installation. It portrays a child’s imaginary outlook on the possibilities of life and the implication of loss. The flock of birds has a dual meaning: the birds symbolize dreams and possibilities while their flight represents departure, loss, and separation. This piece is a colorful vision of the afterlife that exists through the imagination and thrives on the possibilities and desires of the human soul.

Hair Salons – Trocks Street

This project presents various video/performance/object oriented installations and projections that deal with W.E.B. Dubois as a potent point of departure. The aesthetic and technique of this project borrows largely from the contemporary urban spatial phenomenon of the “pop-up market stall/shop/selling space” that hawkers and street sellers use in Accra. The spaces we intend to use, therefore, become activated interstices between places: curbs, street pavements, pedestrian zones, public parks, small shops, vending kiosks, hair salons, barber shops, taxis cabs and public transport.
