DZALA Butiq: See Kwame Boafo’s “Odyssey”

Kwame Boafo in performance.

This Saturday, April 30th launches the first DZALA BUTIQ at our artspace @ Brazil House in James Town. We have three feature artists exhibiting their visual works for sale – Josephine Kuuire, Kwesi Botchway and Kwame Junior Quaicoe.

Talk Party is also in full effect with fresh conversations with the artists and live performances by MensaHighlife and Nii Noi. Great music, vibes, food and drinks will also be happening.

Also on deck is Kwame Boafo, an artist in residence with ACCRA [dot] ALT, who will debut an original performance piece entitled “Odyssey”. Kwame speaks on the artwork as “probing into how people respond to issues of apathy, suppression, stagnancy and resistance. It explores how people deal with social issues they encounter everyday and what possibilities exist for changing those realities.”

Kwame, a Ph.D. student in Theatre Studies who’s lived in China for the last 3 years and speaks Mandarin, composed the performance piece from a number of poems based on conversations with community residents in James Town. He calls the work “brutally honest and present” and interactive with the audience. He also shares, “Odyssey is an exploration of kinesthetic possibilities of the body moving in space. The performance is open to the audience for myriad decoding so that an answer opens up numerous questions for reflection.”

Catch Kwame Boafo’s “Odyssey” on Saturday at 6:30pm.
