Cultural animators gathered in their thousands to jam to mostly independent musicians with style and crossover appeal mainstream media is yet to discover. From Amandziba, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, King Ayisoba and Gasmilla to musicians who are bursting to the limelight, most people showed up to experience organic soundscapes defining music subcultures in Ghana.
One can hardly see any of these acts on other platforms save for the ones putting on their own concerts, which aren’t many. What is for sure is that festival attendees can see the best of Ghana’s indie music circuit at the Sabolai Radio Music stage.
#ChaleWote2023 offered a show-stopping two-day concert to a packed audience at the Black Star Square despite been devoid of mainstream acts. The concerts were held on Saturday, 26th August and Sunday 27th August 2023.
Many patrons thronged to the concert grounds without knowing the artistes on the bill but trusted in the consistency of the Chale Wote Brand. They were truly drawn to the organic sounds emanating from the Square which is a signature of the festival.
The calm whispers of the Atlantic Ocean met the lively vibrations of the African instruments and voices on stage to great an explosive atmosphere.
The teeming audience even past midnight who were not threatened by the clouds and rains is a testament that people drift towards organic sounds which are not engineered by streaming notoriety or paying for rotation in the traditional and social media space.
The veterans who graced the stage; Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Amandzeba and Ayisoba are not strangers to the #ChaleWote stage and are in the real sense not “Surprise Arts”.
For other patrons, coming to Chale Wote Street Art Festival Concert is not mainly for the music but to be part of the Community of Art lovers, fratenize or just be present and soak in the atmosphere.
