Theme: MAGNETO MOTHERLAND

Tales of conquest of the African continent are but attempts to erase the fierce resistance against Western colonization of highly advanced societies. What the world has come to know as the trans Atlantic slave trade was merely the transportation of prisoners of war to populate and rebuild other conquered lands; lands with megaliths that are older than the officially recognized timeline of “history “ that were built by living melanated people throughout the world. The signs are in the skies and in the waters; the sea is reclaiming the deserts – rivers are drying up and rare celestial occurrences point to an awakening and a thinning of the proverbial veil. Today we know that the past is much more magnificent than we would ever know, but the difference is that we have become aware of the magneto electro frequency that made such an advanced civilisation of melanated people possible.
As the world inches closer to nuclear confrontation, we have an opportunity to redirect the impending reset by harnessing magneto electro energy; our own Magneto Motherland. The epistemologies of this Magneto Motherland are vastly different from Western political thought. It represents a politics of consistent mobility while questioning”. It is the conception of a movement, which implies something distinctly different from the fiction projected as “reality”.
MAGNETO MOTHERLAND refers to the collective silent consciousness that stores all data of our existence and answers all questions. Its objective is to stimulate the living to the discovery of the truth; that they are the makers of themselves by virtue of the thoughts they encourage. MAGNETO MOTHERLAND is the collective utterance calling forth new identities and sensitivities,
Obscured by dominant habits of representation. The phenomenon investigates how historical movements have embedded themselves into popular consciousness, affirming the inevitable solidarity with the “global south” for its complete and unconditional sovereignty.
GUIDELINES
- Artists are encouraged to use a variety of disciplines like video art, sculpture, music, performance, design, fashion, animation, architecture, installation, dance, literature, photography and film to create works that shed light on this ecology from various perspectives.
- Artists statements, CVs, theme related notes, sample of previous works (jpegs) and logistical needs must be attached for applications to be considered.
- Artists and collectives who already have work that aligns with the theme can also submit. Applications that contain plagiarised works will be disqualified. Film works should be submitted in 1:85:1 and or 2:39:1, formats must include synopsis, trailers and still images from film. Audio works should be submitted in MP3 format. With supporting still images or video.
- All photography and image-related works must be submitted as jpegs at all times. Musicians and Bands must attach technical riders to applications in order to be considered.
International artists are encouraged to seek funding in their home countries to support their participation (flights, accommodation, logistical resources and insurance) CHALE WOTE will provide support teams for artists to aid production of works as well as transportation during the festival period. Selected artists will be notified by MAY 20th 2023.
