Enoch Nii Amon Hammond is a visual artist from Accra, Ghana working across the areas of installation, painting, and horncraft.
Nii Amon refers to his work as “AFROHORNISM”, a concept that confronts the question of material culture through the utilization of discarded cow horns. His craftsmanship produces and works with a variety of shapes, forms, and space, all creatively balanced in eccentric movement, unity, repetition, and rhythm which ultimately merge to yield a visual representation of Africa’s ingenuity.
In line with the theme of Chale Wote 2023, ‘Magneto Motherland’, Nii Amon’s work focuses on the important role the cow horn played during slave trade rebellions, where slaves used the cow horn as their major tool of communication and decoy to throw off soldiers who came after them.
